When is the Best Time to Visit New York?
Before planning a visit to New York City, we would like to know usually when is the best time to visit this great place, as far as the weather is concerned. There are some popular events happening in each month in New York City. So you can plan your visit according to your preference and convenience. I have tried my best to present you with the required information of each month.
If you don't mind of the cold weather January is the best time to visit New York to avoid crowd and to get great deals. Because of the less visitors during this time it is also easier to get tickets to Broadway shows, and get great discounts in restaurants.
The Annual Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade and Festivalhappens during January-February. The parade will start at Mott Street and promenade through practically every street in of Chinatown, finally dispersing at Worth Street.
Cooler weather continues in March, and by April the weather becomes warmer than the previous month. An important event during March is St.Patrick's Day celebrations. If you plan to visit New York City in March don't miss the festive experience. Many museums in of New York City offer events for families and children to commemorate St. Patrick's Day.
In April Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival celebrations. The paraders wander along Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets. Also it is a great time to visit the Central Park greenery.
Because of the warmer weather, it is a great time to visit New York before the summer crowd. Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday in May. Other highlights of the month are Tribeca Film Festival, Baseball season, "Toast of the Town" Wine Tasting, Ninth Avenue International Food Festival and Dance Festival.
June marks the beginning of summer in New York City, and not very hot. Museum Mile Festival, an annual event, is celebrated in June. 5th Avenue is closed to traffic and becomes home to a block party, with musical and artistic entertainment for children and adults. Also free admission to the museums during this festival. Also best time for Walking tours, and New York Restaurant week.
July is usually the hottest and wettest month of the year. Average High: 85°F (29°C)Average Low: 70°F (21°C).4th of July (Independence Day) is a great day for celebration. Spectacular fireworks, Concerts, Cruises, Hotdog eating contest etc are part of the celebration.
August is quite hot and humid. (Average High: 83°F (28°C) andAverage Low: 69°F (21°C). Concerts at Central Park Summerstage, on East 72nd Street off Fifth Avenue. Shakespeare in the Park performance, began in 1954. (Tickets are required for this event,distributed at the Delacorte Theater, also available online, and better to book it earlier).
Warm weather continues in September, and the crowd decreases. (Average High: 76°F (24°C) and Average Low: 61°F (16°C). Evenings can be a bit cooler, and is also the best time to visit New York City.
Labor Day (first Monday)celebration as a tribute to US workers and a national Holiday, but most restaurants, stores and attractions are open.Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Fifth Avenue is open on this day. Shakespeare in the Park performance continues. San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy. It will be nice to have lunch or dinner at one of Little Italy's restaurants during this time. Processions, musical performance and carnival games are part of this festival.
Usually great weather in October, and also the crowd increases because of the peak travel time.The highlights of October are Halloween, Columbus Day Parade which falls on 2nd Monday, Colorful fall foliage in Central Park.
Weather is chilly in November. Great time to visit Central Park, which offers 843 acres of paths, lakes and open spaces. The New York City Marathon Day (1st Sunday) and Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday) are the great events in November.Veterans Day on 11th November, federal holiday. This season is also best time to visit New York.
December is great time in New York City to enjoy Christmas and New Year Day celebrations, even though the weather is cold. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is very popular. The lighting ceremony of the illuminated Christmas tree is great time to watch with the musical performances from a variety of popular artists.
