Edinburgh Attractions

I had a wonderful opportunity to see Edinburgh Attractions, one of the best family vacation destinations, in UK.

Edinburgh Castle

Visiting Scotland was one of my dreams, and I had thought that it will always remain as a dream only. But suddenly during my second visit to UK, my children announced that we are going on a family vacation to Edinburgh, the capital city of enchanting Scotland, during Christmas holidays. I was excited to know about this fantastic family holidays.

As soon as we decided about our destination, after a thorough checking on the net,  we booked our accommodation in a vacation rental. It was a beautiful apartment in the heart of Edinburgh, just overlooking the castle. Staying here we went around in Edinburgh and other nearby places which needed 1-2 hours driving, to see some of the historical and natural beauty of Scotland. We drove from London to Edinburgh and  our friends in Southport insisted that we take an overnight break there instead of driving directly to Edinburgh, and our way back to London. It was certainly a great break.

Though it was winter time Scotland has a plethora of things to see and do for the tourists.  To our luck, the weather was tolerable, though not very  pleasant and rained in the night.

Important Edinburgh Attractions

We visited Edinburgh Castle,  Royal Mile,  Edinburgh Zoo,  Royal Yacht Britannia, Palace of Hollyrood, The Scottish Parliament,  St.Giles Church,  Deep Sea World (Scotland's National Aquarium), Loch Lomond in Glasgow and the picturesque Luss village. We also enjoyed simply strolling the beautiful streets of New Town and the old town.

We wanted to visit Royal Botanical Garden, but it was not opened. So we just saw it from outside and came back. In the same way we wanted to visit National Museum of Flight and went all the way to East Lothian, but unfortunately it was closed.  During November-March, it was opened during the weekends only, which we missed by oversight while checking on the site. Though we were a bit disappointed, especially my little grandson, we thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty of the places we passed through.   We also visited Maybole, a small town in southeast of Glasgow, to visit a friend's family.

All in all, we felt that Edinburgh is one of the best family vacation destinations.
