Ruislip Lido for a picnic

Ruislip Lido is a nice place to take the kids for an outing.  It is located within the London Borough of Hillingdon.   The Lido is a nice reservoir set in woodlands. There is  an artificial beach in the heart of the city with a lot of play areas, including a pirate ship in the beach area .  Swimming is not allowed in the beach, but kids were  playing in the water when we visited. The lake is home to many species of wildlife.

For the walking enthusiastic there is a long walking way (about 1 1/2 mile ) distance around the Lido.

For dog lovers, it is a great place to walk their dogs, but dogs are not allowed on the beach area.

Birds like egrets, sparrow, and hawk are seen there. It was a treat for the eyes to watch the Ducks and swans swimming in the water at Lido.

Things to do at Ruislip Lido Beach

Kids can play in the sands and burn off some energy.  The water is not very clean and hence it is better not to get into the water.  Even without getting into the water children can spend a couple of hours there playing in the sand and other playing areas.  There is a small train which goes around.

After all the play and walking, if you are looking forward to having some refreshments, you will not be disappointed; there is a lakeside restaurant in the Lido which serves hot and cold drinks and snacks. There is also a Water Edge restaurant/ pub which is located opposite the beach, with the option to sit outside overlooking the lake. A wide variety of food is offered here for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It is a good place for picnics. People come here for picnics also on willow lawn and beach side and other areas around the Lido.

The Lido becomes very busy and crowded with the visit of large number of people during summer holidays and weekends when the weather is really good.

We visited this place on a sunny day and the main parking area was really crowded. Since they accept only coins we had to take the service of the private area where card was accepted.

Public transport is available to reach this beautiful place.

It is a place to visit for free.
